The Philippine Call Center Industry and the Philippine Economy

Philippine call centers have all started cropping up in the nation’s business centers. A little more than a decade ago, this was not the case. Surely the economy of the Philippines was not vibrant fifteen years ago. And although I could not say that the economy of the Philippines is vibrant today, there is certainly a big buzz about how the offshore outsourcing industry is growing in the country and providing so many new jobs and gross national income. But how good really is the effect of the Philippine call center industry to our economy in terms of the long term picture?

Asian call center

http://kabataanpartylist.com/files/2009/08/callcenter.jpg

First, let us look closely at the call center. Being a call center agent is not such a good job. Surely there are a lot of worse jobs out there and being in a call center is not such a bad deal when one thinks about the income. But the alienation that one feels in a call center is horrendous, not to mention the terrible effects of such repetitive work. If one would compare a call center job versus a cashier job, one might think that a cashier job is much harder. But in truth, there are some people who prefer a cashier job because at least there, you get to face the people you are talking to. The common complaint of call center agents are not that they have to talk to people everyday, but that they have to do such cold communication through the phone. This is doubly tiring. This is not only a perfect example of the alienation Karl Marx was talking about. Also, a lot of agents think of call centers as just stepping stones. It is one of those jobs that almost anyone with good English and customer skills can do without any specialized school degree. This is why opportunity to advance in such a career by building contacts or by climbing up the corporate ladder is very small. The thing that makes it good is that the presently, the pay is good. But growth is not the main concern of a lot of the highly educated professionals that try it out.

The same thing can be said about the call center industry as a whole. It does provide jobs and GNP and some development, but it will not directly lead to more significant development and expansion of the Philippine economy. However, it is, right now, an undeniable chunk of our economy on which a lot of people depended on for income so keeping the industry going is still in our best interest. But investing in other sectors such as agriculture for a self sustaining economy would be a better idea for the government.

Moving to the Dominican Republic

How is it like to move to the Caribbean, namely the Dominican Republic? You’ve probably searched many sites that offer as much information for a newcomer to this island paradise. It is a paradise and the biggest one in the Hispaniolas. The weather is warm all year round and there are many places to enjoy in the beautiful weather. You have many beaches to choose from and mountains inland. Imagine a laid back lifestyle where everything from nature to developments is a paradise. Maybe the development part was a little stretched but overall, you can enjoy a life there if you observe a few ways yet foreign to you.

Houses are very cheap to rent in the Dominican Republic. You can get a three or four bedroom house for the price of a studio flat back home. It’s sizeable for a family of four. Remember how you used to do house chores? You can do as little in this country because help is so affordable. You have more time for socializing as do the locals and spending leisure time at the beach or the golf course. You’d be asked to pay for two months deposit and a month in advance if you have a local guarantor. If not, you may be asked to pay for four to six months of rent in advance. Don’t live far from where you’ll work or where your kids will probably go to school. Be practical. There’s too much traffic to be going the distance every day.

Food is cheap here. Stick to local fruits and vegetables. They’re good for your health and your finances. You should be able to save a lot than you would when you purchase these in your home country. You can get imported food in case you miss the taste of back home. They are pricey however as they have to be imported. It’s actually hard to resist the temptation of buying these goods as the supermarkets are well-stocked with them.

Shopping would be a budget buster, too. There are many stores and boutiques that sell top brands in the States for half the price. Who wouldn’t be on a spree? It’s initially very tempting to splurge because there seems to be a sale all year round as well. Public transportation is comfortable. You can go around by bus or by taxi. Cab rates here are quite cheap. Should you want a car, gas prices are reasonable too but aren’t stable.

A Roof Installation Contractor Solves All Your Roofing Needs

Seattle is a pleasant city to live in. But, all this beauty has a downside. Due to its location, Seattle is subject to at least 7 months of rain during the year. This is why a roof installation contractor is needed. Roof repair is always done after the damage brought by heavy rains has incurred. However, if you monitor the condition of your roof and perform minor maintenance, the cost of roof repair can be avoided.

http://www.exteriorexpertsofvirginia.com/images/pic01.jpg

There are lots of roof installation contractor in Seattle. Some of them offer do it yourself kits that can be used to fix minor problems. These kits may contain various packages from screws to downspouts and gutters. For people who have limited budget, doing things themselves is the way to go.

If you want to try fixing your roof, then you should first study the damaged area. A quick evaluation of the damaged area is needed in order for you to calculate the cost of the project. Doing things yourself needs skills, effort and of course dedication. If you lack any of these then you should better hire a roof installation contractor.

Not all roof projects always mean roof repairs and maintenance. Some roof works involve beautification. One project that you can do to enhance the look of your roof is the installation of a dormer window. This is more of an intermediate to expert project.  But, this can greatly beautify your roof.

http://www.surrey-roofing.co.uk/images/banner_02.jpg

To start, you have to find where you want the dormer to be installed. Take measurements and be sure to get the exact measurement even to the smallest millimeter. Next, by using your roofing square, you can determine the angle for your cuts. Use your skill saw to make the right cuts and begin framing the dormer. Take care not to damage the front wall. This will be your measuring point for the other two walls. See to it that it is level and straight. You will then connect the top plate to the side walls with rafters. Use a reciprocating saw to carefully cut out the roof section that will open the dormer. When everything is finished inside, you can finish off you new roof dormer by adding the vinyl siding to the outside walls.

The above is a project that you can do at home. But, if you are not confident then you better leave it to the experts. A roof installation contractor can greatly help you and eliminate the burden of wasted materials and time.

Tips to Avoid Loan Modification Scams

Because of the alarming mortgage dilemma in the US, many people have turned to mortgage restructuring to save their homes and stop foreclosure. This is the process of restructuring your mortgage which would result to lower interest rates, longer loan term, reduced monthly payments, and eventually, home ownership preservation. Many American families have tried this mortgage process and have successfully saved their homes. On the other hand, there has been so many reports of loan modification scams happening in various states in the country. As a homeowner, it is important to protect yourself against entities who offer fake services. These are some proactive tips to help you save your home the legal way.

1. Be informed and be aware of the process.
To make sure that you are getting legitimate services, it is best to know the basics about this mortgage process if not everything. If you know how things go, it would be easier for you to question practices and instructions from your lending institutions of mortgage restructuring companies that offer help.

2. Do a little research about the track record of the loan modification company before signing a deal.
If the company were legitimate, they would have a pool of loan experts that would  give you good advice about the process. They would have a legitimate partnership with a law firm that would take care of the legalities of restructuring loan terms. They should also demonstrate transparency about such things to clients like you. Aside from which they should also be recognized and accredited by your local government as a legitimate company.

3. Do business with a legitimate finance lawyer who already have some connections with banks and lending institutions.

When you have a lawyer doing the negotiation for you, half of your problem is already solved. The connections that your lawyer has would also be your connections so it would be easier for you to get approval for your loans to be modified.

4. Ask questions.
The best practice to avoid being a victim of these fraudulent activities would be to keep yourself informed. Do not be afraid to ask questions about deals and payments. If they are a really legitimate agency, they should maintain service transparency to their clients. In case, they conceal important information from you, it is time to look for another servicer.

Loan modification is considered as the best known solution to save homes from foreclosure. Follow the above-mentioned tips to fully benefit from this mortgage process and avoid loan modification scams.

The Good in Solar Panels

Watching the Inconvenient Truth would make one stop to think what we are really doing with our planet. It’s our home and it has changed as much as mankind. Our progress in technology has been exponential that we ought to take a moment to ponder how we have come to live off a hospitable environment and how we are turning it into one that will potentially bring our end. Why do we have to increasingly rely on the use of our earth’s resources? There are finite. They will be depleted someday. When they run out, how could we learn to live with that fact?

home solar panels California
http://solarsunenergy.org/images/home_panels.jpg

We start right at home and think of how we could in our own way reduce these demands on our resources. We think of turning to renewable resources. We think of turning to renewable energy. We think of harnessing the renewable and free energy of the sun.

The image of solar panels on our rooftops comes to mind.  Solar power does not pollute. We are keeping much of it in our atmosphere than we should since we damaged the protection our atmosphere offers us. This thermal energy is roaming around our planet altering the landscapes of our planet forever at an alarming rate. Perhaps if we tapped this energy instead, we wouldn’t have to discover a world so different and beyond restoration.

Solar power is versatile and can be used in any location that gets sunlight. It’s the practical option for structures in remote locations. There would be no need to run miles of electrical wires to connect to a grid.

http://www.life123.com/bm.pix/home-solar-energy.s600x600.jpg
home solar panels LA

At the moment, the panels aren’t efficient and research is still underway on how to make the best panels at affordable prices. Solar panels can only harness 30% of the sunlight into electricity. That would not be so bad considering it’s proportionally almost half of the power generated by a power plant that ever reaches homes.

Fuel isn’t the only resource we are saving when we install solar panels. We are also eliminating the need for miles and miles of electrical wires. These wires are made of copper. Although the energy lost in transmission is more than a quarter than what was generated, this material is still superior in conducting electricity. This material is also a limited resource.

When we think of solar energy, we can’t just imagine how it benefits us alone. Our effort in harnessing it does make an impact on the intricate web of unsustainable energy use.

Things You Did Not Know About the Tetris Game

Alexey Leonidovich Pajitnov created and developed the Tetris game. Perhaps, you did not know that. If this is true, then you also wouldn’t know that Mr. Pajitnov ended up not making money for his creation because it was considered communal property. It belonged to the people of the USSR and Eastern Block countries, so he couldn’t really call them his. Alexey Leonidovich Pajitnov only enjoyed success once he decided to move to America and began to develop and co-create other games for computer gaming giants. But that’s beside the point.

tetris
http://www.intelore.com/challenger/game-tetris-large.jpg

You probably know Tetris as that addictive game with the multicolor blocks that disappear “when something happens.” But you probably do not know several important things that comprise the elements of Tetris gameplay. It wasn’t hailed by the Imagine Games Network or IGN as the 2nd best game of all time merely because it is addictive. The organization also recognized the skill and craft that Alexey Leonidovich Pajitnov put into the game. That’s the reason why Tetris is available in serveal game consoles. Sega and Nintendo both have Tetris. Even calculators, PDA’s and iPods have this game pre-installed.

Alexey Leonidovich Pajitnov developed the Tetris game by incorporating his favorite sport as he designed it. His favorite game is tennis. The game’s name was taken from the Greek numerical prefix “tetra” which means “four.” The integral parts of the game are the “terominoes,” which used to be called “tertrads” in the game’s older versions. Each tetrad or tetramino is composed of four blocks, hence the use of the Greek prefix. They resemble some letters in the alphabet and are referred to these respectively. The basic blocks are , J, L, O, S, T, and Z. However, these blocks have other names. “S” is referred to as the “snake” and “I” is sometimes called ‘stick.” But whatever these pieces are called, the objective of the game is fairly the same.

http://loyalkng.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/03/tetris-game-278x300.jpg

free tetris

The blocks drop in the “matrix” or “well.” This playing field is a rectangle positioned vertically. As the pieces fall into the well, the player can rotate them by 90 degree increments or moving them sideways to the desired direction. The person playing Teris must make sure that there are no gaps or spaces formed while laying down the blocks. If the terominoes could be referred to as bricks, then the player must build a brick wall that has no gaps or missing bricks. When a player manages to make a horizontal line, that line disappears. Then, the other pieces above the vanished line will fall. The blocks fall faster and faster as the game progresses and the player must make sure to keep up with this. Thus, Tetris is not only a game of strategy. It is also a game that challenges the reflexes.

The Teris game can be available online through various websites. All one needs is a computer and an internet connection in order to have hours and hours of Tetris-playing fun.

Do it Yourself Loan modification

A lot of people don’t know this but it is actually possible to accomplish a do it yourself loan modification without the help of a paid law advisor or lawyer.

Because of the bad economic status of the nation, everyone is trying to cut costs, especially mortgage costs which keep getting harder and harder to pay. This is why everyone is looking to loan rate modification as a means to cut the nearly impossible cost of the rising interests and payments. Everyone’s also looking for help because the process is very important and very overwhelming. There is always a chance that the modification negotiation will not go well, will not be approved, or will churn out a deal that is still too steep. So the question is: should or could this process be left on one’s own hands or in the care of professionals? Is a do it yourself loan modification the best recourse?

http://www.attorneylasvegas.com/images/image8.jpg

Do it yourself loan modification is definitely hard and complicated, but it is possible to accomplish successfully. If one decides to give a DIY loan modification a try, there are two vital principles that need to be remembered:

The more important of these two is the first: be completely and totally honest with everyone (this includes to yourself since some people are good at lying to themselves so that they can believe the lie they tell to others). Remember that lenders are going to look for verifications of everything that you put in your loan modification application. Lenders have people checking into these things. Also, the documents that prove everything you put in your application are all required to be submitted in the first place. These will include one’s DTIR (or Debt to Income Ratio). If and when they catch even just a whiff of a lie on your part, then you can kiss your loan rate modification success good bye. They will quickly disapprove your application.

Secondly, you have to remember that every act or move that you do must have a record. Every time you talk to your loaner, you need to remember to keep a note of your conversation, the name as well as the official position of the person you talked to and his or her contact numbers. You should record their comments, their promised references, and the time and date that these were given to you. This is so that you can remember the things that they may forget in the process, they process hundreds of loan modifications and information can easily get lost.

eLearning Solutions Can Accommodate Different Types of Learners

The field of learning and education has evolved alongside the rest of other fields of human interest, mainly since the level of thinking of people has significantly progressed through the years.  Educators, innovators, and researchers have established the fact that learning is not always the same procedure for everyone, as initially thought by earlier educators.  This has effectively enlightened the rest of the academe and the world in general that really are no supposed “slow learners”, since individuals may have their own individual type of learning that facilitates better and faster learning, and this learning type may not always coincide with others, or worse, be in synch with the particular type of learning that the instructor, teacher, or trainer is accustomed to, thereby making it more difficult for those who may be in need of a more specialized or different type of learning.  Most learning institutions, however, are known for sticking to what they consider to be the generally accepted and traditional type of learning and mode of instruction, slightly adjusting it as needed just to meet the minimum standard of modernized learning.  Most instructors, however, will still not tailor their practice of instruction to facilitate better learning for the one or two learners who happen to exhibit a different type of learning aptitude, preferring to continue with the method that appeals to the majority of the learning group.  This may be understandable on a certain level, since the instructor is more concerned with ensuring that the learning module or curriculum is finished on the projected completion schedule, rather than spend more time just to facilitate a different type of learning for those who need it.  While there are indeed a few institutions that do facilitate the needs of learners who subscribe to a different type of learning, not all institutions will readily rewrite their entire curriculum just to accommodate the needs of a few over that of the vast majority who do well in the traditional type of learning.  There are some educators and instructors, however, who believe that e-learning tools may provide the much needed solution to the need for accommodation of the various types of learning.

http://www.duessel.com/bilder/elearning.jpg

eLearning solutions can accommodate the multiple learning styles primarily because it is internet-based, and therefore has access to the various resources.  This may be appreciated fully by educators seeking a means to bridge the gap between accommodating the various learning styles of the learner and finishing the learning module on the projected completion time frame.  The efficacy of elearning solutions is in the fact that while the entire group is learning the module, their particular and individual needs may be met, addressing the need to tailor the learning module in a way that is easier for all members of the group to learn, regardless of the type of learning that they may adhere to.  This particular solution is much easier for virtually any learner rather than having to re-adapt themselves and try to compensate by adjusting to a learning type that may be completely foreign to them.

What Philippine call center Agents Deal With

Let me start first by saying that I think the Philippine call center industry is a big help to our nation’s economy since it brings in foreign investment, jobs, and development. But of course it is not perfect either. Let me relate the story of a friend of mine who is an agent of the call center industry. The story is about a call he received. I will change some of the details and names of the story in order to protect my friend’s identity.

So there he was just minding his own business, doing his job and just answering calls, when all of a sudden he received this one call that wrecked his day. The caller was obviously irate. But this was no ordinary irate customer. This was a crazy irate customer. She started by asking for why she could not withdraw her money from the ATM machine. Then she asked to be patched to the American branch. The thing is, my agent friends was already starting to explain that she should dial a 1900 number. She refuses, goes on a blitzkrieg of swearing and cussing and shouting that she does not even let my agent friend talk or explain. She keeps calling even and keeps going ballistic calling all Filipinos stupid crooks even though she is (or at least was) a Filipino herself.

Philippine call centers
http://www.alorica.com/pictures/call_center_rep_6.jpg

Now imagine dealing with this type of thing every day you go to work. It can be very taxing. This is just one of the extreme examples of what a Philippine call center agent will have to deal with in his or her day to day work. But that’s not all.

A lot of my friends say that it can be a bit lonely working at a call center. Now one can find that this is a little strange, seeing as how call center agents talk to people on the phone every few minutes or so. But this is surprisingly lonelier than one would expect exactly because of that. My friends say that they feel that they haven’t talked to anyone at all because of course there is no real “conversation” in a call. And the fact that they keep on communicating with so many people in such a superficial, almost cold and empty fashion makes the loneliness more apparent. It is just like urban isolation. One feels so alone because here are all these people and yet they are all strangers going on their own way like ants in a colony.

This is why when they get home, they get even chattier and seek conversation with friends who are amazed at how talkative they are and hungry for people despite working all day with “people”. The Philippine call center agent is truly valuable, just as the Philippine OFW’s are valuable to our country.

What to Expect from Chiropractors

Chiropractors diagnose, treat and prevent medical problems through the manual manipulation of the spine, joints and nerves. They examine the patient for medical information such as the history, the physical condition and even lifestyle. They recommend health care plans that apply a combination of natural remedies for wellness. They are also supposed to work with the mainstream medical community in treating cases that require more intervention than manual manipulation.

st george chiropractor
http://ww1.prweb.com/prfiles/2005/08/02/268614/Chiropractor.jpg

Upon consulting a chiropractor for the first time, the chiropractor would interview the client for his or her medical history and health problem. The chiropractor examines the patient by checking the source of discomfort. He or she may ask the patient to stand or move in certain ways to check their posture. Not all chiropractors would refer patients to have X-rays done but there are those who do. There are other diagnostic methods and tools some chiropractors use that are not widely accepted by medical doctors. The chiropractor is supposed to be able to explain what these tools do and why they are effective as opposed to popular belief. The effectiveness of these tools varies on a case to case basis. Research on the use of these tools is insufficient to gain them acceptance in scientific circles.

The treatments a chiropractor uses are less invasive. They use their hands to apply controlled force on certain parts of the body to realign the displaced nerves or discs. Studies have shown that this kind of treatment is more economic and effective than standard medical care in treating lower back pain and sports injuries. For problems not directly related to the central nervous and musculoskeletal system, the good chiropractor should be able to refer the patient to other physicians that could take another look before ruling out any other possible diagnosis. Although there are chiropractors that would claim to be able to cure every ailment, the reasonable ones are open and more respectful of other medical professionals’ opinions. The treatment of a critically thinking chiropractor should result to significant improvements within a few visits.

http://www.ehlichchiro.com/shared/chiropractor1/header_01.jpg

Only a small percentage of chiropractors would suggest neck manipulation due to the risks involved. A good number of them have successfully treated patients without the use of this method. The chiropractor that suggests this method should be able to adequately explain to his or her patient its necessity, makes sure the patient understands the consequences and respect the patient’s decision.
